Someone’s been talking to Constable Forrester, because he knows about Maya. He said a lot of nice things to me, but Maya says he doesn’t mean them. She also says that Delia doesn’t really like me very much.
Delia is going away for the weekend with her new friends. I wish she wouldn’t go and leave me alone here. Baddock is crazier than ever and even though he’s got it in for Crabtree this year, I’m still afraid of him. I don’t like Delia’s new friends, and she says I’m being anti-Semitic. I don’t even really know what that means, but her new friends are all wet. Except for Alden Goldstein. He goes on rounds with our new prefect who is Kyteler who is Fairlight’s patron-for-life. And he’s scary. I think he is probably the scariest Pelby ever born.
I’m not happy about having Kyteler as a prefect. I liked Jeannot. He never lifted a finger to help us with anything, but he didn’t get into our business, either. Kyteler wants to help with everything and he only makes everything worse. |

A lot of people aren't speaking to me, but they mostly aren't people I terribly wanted to know.
There are two first-years who think they are very special. This is amusing, because I am far more special than either of them, and handsomer too ♥ but I have the brains not to say so.
One must really have something in print and a bit of a reputation before one can get away with saying things like that.
Rather worried about Mum. I only got a few minutes with her before they sent us away and she looked quite upset. Haven't seen Maya lately, either. |

Uncle Damien has really, really, really done it this time. Even Mother is unhappy about it.
Uncle Damien is angry because Auntie Maya died, but I keep trying to tell him I don't think she is. After all, when we went to collect the body from St Pantaleon's it wasn't there. I know nobody can possibly survive a fall like that, but Auntie Maya has always been a very special person, she's got much better magic than Mother has. |

I saw Auntie Maya in the mirror today, but I'm not going to tell Mother. She'd just be upset. |
